If You Eat - You're In!
Hello & welcome! Edible Felixstowe are a friendly community interest company dedicated to growing edible produce in our town and enhancing our landscape 🌱
We're all about growing delicious fruit, vibrant vegetables, fragrant herbs, and beautiful edible flowers right here in the middle of our town, for everyone to enjoy!
We’d absolutely love for you to join us in our mission to make growing, cooking (and eating!) locally produced food fun and accessible for everyone! Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, there’s a place for you here. Let's dig in together and enjoy the wonderful world of gardening!
We believe in the power of locally grown produce, sustainability and the benefits of being outdoors for improving our mental health. Our vision is to create a thriving gardening iniative that not only beautifies our town but also fosters a sense of community among residents. There are many opportunities to get involved, whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out. Join us in our various initiatives, from growing organic vegetables in publicily accessible areas to attending demos on how to cook the food we've grown. We'd also love to connect with any local businesses, groups and schools to encourage local engagement. We've got plenty of new ideas and projects in the pipeline that aim to engage and inspire everyone in our community to get growing!
Below are some of the current and recent projects we have been working on :
Starting with a herb circle at the Triangle we quickly expanded to grow veggies in unused land outside of the library as well as filling the blue planters at each end of Hamilton road with edible flowers and even more veggies!
The Grow Cook Eat Festival in September 2024 was our inaugural celebration devoted to championing locally produced food and drink. This vibrant festival not only showcased our local produce but also what you can make with it! From interactive cooking demonstrations to engaging with youngsters, plus we had a custom made smoothie bike!
We had a great response from numerous local businesses eager to enhance their outdoor presence by integrating container gardens outside their premises. Many business owners recognise the aesthetic and practical benefits of incorporating greenery, not only to attract more customers but also to create a welcoming atmosphere for the community. We are excited to continue and expand our collaborations, where we help in providing support and resources to help them successfully implement and maintain these container gardens.
We’re so excited about what’s next!
We are able to offer free seeds, trays and compost if you will grow some plants for us. Starting in April 2025 we are offering free sessions at the library to start you off. see our main section about our new project below
A new season is on the horizon at Edible Felixstowe, and we are excited to build upon the incredible momentum we created in our very first year! Our 'Sow n Grow 2025' initiative aims to cultivate not just plants, but a thriving community of gardeners of all levels. Whether you're an experienced green thumb or just starting your gardening journey, we invite you to get involved!
This year, we are focusing on making our project more sustainable, inclusive, affordable, and eco-friendly. Join us as we work together to grow a greener and brighter town centre, where you can learn, share, and flourish in your gardening skills.
Remember, at Edible Felixstowe, every seed sown brings us closer to a more vibrant community!
If you have plants to donate to us please take them to Felixstowe library who are happy to be a drop off point.
We are excited to announce that from the middle of March, Edible Felixstowe will be launching our very own seed library, which will be available to everyone at Felixstowe Library. This fantastic initiative encourages everyone to come together and help grow veggies for themselves, and (we hope) donate some of their plants and veg to our cause, promoting locally grown food, sustainability and healthy eating. Members of the community can borrow seeds, grow vegetables, and eventually return some seeds from their harvest, ensuring that our seed library flourishes for future gardeners. Let’s get those veggies growing and foster a spirit of collaboration and self-sufficiency in our beautiful community!
